it depends on what you downlod. you can check what you want to download before you downlod it then if it has virus don't do it. and see if their is another program, song, or whatever you are trying to download..
p.s. I love limewire
I meant check it with your virus protection program

Well, all I can say is don't use Limewire without virus protection. I have AVG:
http://free.grisoft.com/
Which picked up a virus on like 10 things in a row which I downloaded using Limewire. I eventually gave up and don't use it anymore. It's very dangerous, some viruses may not be noticed so you'll have to be careful if you are using it even with a virus scanner.
I'm not sure if there is anything better than limewire, all of those programs are going to have viruses spreading through them. Most of them i'm sure will be just as bad as Limewire. I strongly recommend you do not use those programs, not only can what you are downloading be illegal (which doesn't seem to bother too many people) but you're most probably downloading something you didn't want (songs are put on which aren't what they say they are for example), you may get a virus (big chance you will) while downloading stuff or might get spyware or adware which tracks what you are doing, changes your homepage and more.
Basically, be careful, what you are doing may not seem dangerous for a while, but one day your use of Limewire may backfire and you'll find you have a virus or something you can't get rid of on your computer. I don't use the program, I don't want anything bad to happen to my computer. Not to mention the whole illegal side of it.
Just once again, remember: BE CAREFUL with any programs like Limewire you use.

As long as you use it wisely it is the least risky. There is always a chance with any of them, but LimeWire is the best about blocking them. Just don't download anything with an EXE and watch the sizes of the files you DL. If you are downloading something that should be 3-4 megs and you DL something that is 30K and open it, then you are asking for it.
If you are using Windows, I always create a restore point before opening Limewire, then if something happens I can always go back to that point and clean out my system.

I've used a few other programs and I've gotten viruses from them. So far Limewire is one of the best ones I've used. I haven't gotten one so far from it. ;-) Another one that is pretty good is Morpheus. Only thing about that though, if you're using the free version, you get pop ups telling you to upgrade once in a while. Other than that, both good programs.

ANY peer to peer file sharing site you use makes your computer vulnerable to any and all attacks! You need to remember the files you are downloading are from other peoples computers and NOT from the website!
