Handicam or Handycam is a Sony Trademark generally used to identify their 8mm process, which can either be digital (e.g. TRV 280) or analog (e.g. TRV 138).
This process uses a cassette about the size of an audio cassette tape that is 8mm wide. Analog provides 400 lines at 2 hours or recordiong. Digital provides 500+ lines at 1 hour of recording. Both must be done on metal oxide (hi biased) tape.
Digital generally refers to Mini-DV-C tapes, which are the size of a travan computer back up tape or an audio dicating machine tape and are 6.2mm wide. They provide 500+ lines at one hour.
DV-C is a minature version of DV-CAM or DV-PRO which is what TV news, documentary and some broadcast TV such as reality shows use to make their programs. The cassettes, however, are bigger (closer to the Sony 8mm in overall size) and the recording speeds faster. Some professional cameras, however, can play consumer DV-C tapes with a special adpater
Sony Handycams are generally twice the size and weight of Digital Video camcorders.

A camcorder takes motion pictures (you can playback to see people moving...) It's like a movie
A digital camera is like a regular point and click camera... it's just that the still image is in digital form.

first of all handycam is a kind of camcorder by sony. camcorders shoot video, and digital still cameras shoot still images, but some camcorders will also shoot stills, and some still cameras will also shoot video. but if you plan for them to be the best quality, you should probably use a camcorder to shoot video, even if your still camera has that option, and vice versa.

digital camera records great quality still photos stored in a memory card and camcorder records good video footages stored in different media (tape, hdd, dvd and also memory cards).
many digicams function also as a videocam and vice versa, but quality is greatly affected, therefore, use the device for what it is mainly built for.
