Begin by thinking before you act. Think before you Re-act. Take your time to weigh your options and consequences. You wouldn't want to bring trouble to yourself that would cause a permanent effect. Like drinking and driving could cause an accident and result in someones demise or intentionally taking a life.
Think more highly of yourself, change the people you hang out with to those less likely to get into trouble if you think that may be a factor.

A theist’s rule,
I am under the assumption that you are a Christian struggling with your desire to follow Jesus and at the same time your flesh screws up. I suggest that you read my newsletter for May titled, “Reign in Life – May” on my Yahoo! 360 page. You are welcome to read the other 3 newsletters that are posted there, but that one should be most effective in helping you understand your struggle and feeling good about yourself in the process.
If you have a question or comment, feel free to contact me.
God bless.

Understand that Jesus loves you, eternally. He forgives you for all that you have done wrong.
Pray to Jesus. Tell him all of the bad things you have done. Do it repeatedly, every night, When you feel sorry about what you've done, you will be forgiven.
Jesus loves you, no matter what. No soul is beyond saving.

the greatest humility is compassion for oneself.
embrace your mistakes as opportunities to learn.
if your mistakes are because your character is bad, because you don't want to choose honesty over deceit, work over theft, integrity over unreliability, you have to accept that your interactions with decent people will always go badly. do your best and be nice and people will accept almost anything - and then you don't have to worry about screwing up.
if you think you know people who don't screw up - they're faking it.

In some cases, it helps to
a) Have a daily prayer time
b) Nip your sins in the bud - e.g. leave the convenience store if tempted to shoplift
c)Focus on Jesus throughout the whole day.
These three things have helped me a lot in my struggles. I hope they help you as well.

Just quit holding yourself to such high standards, and you'll quit feeling so bad when you screw up.
