That's almost like throwing away money that could be used for other things. The most I ever spent on dinner was $145.00 on a date. 45.00 plates each. drinks costing around $8.00 each. plus a tip. This was at a fancy Italian Restraunt in La Jolla, California. How freeking ridiculouse.

It's a social thing. My husband grew up this way so thinks nothing of it. But to me (I'm an Air Force brat) this is a big deal. Every time we eat a great, expensive meal it is a treat and special. It the same concept as paying $50 for a pair of jeans...you can get jeans for $15 at Walmart...but the $50 jeans are better quality, last longer and you feel good wearing them....You can get McDonalds for $4.39 but the expensive meal is better quality, the meal (company) lasts longer and you feel good while your there and even in memory.

You're partially right. I couldn't imagine spending that much on a dinner with family unless it was a very special occasion. But sometimes it's nice to enjoy a nice meal now and then, but at a reasonably-priced restaurant. You could go cheap and do McDonald's, but that food sucks and you'd get sick of fast food after a while, not to mention it's not healthy.

Usually the food is healthier at that cost. Also, you tend not to over eat when you pay that much for food. I always eat at prices like that. I'm much healthier because of it. I also appreciate the food a lot more and enjoy it quite a bit more.
