A Christian is generally someone who accepted the teachings of a modern era (after the crusifiction of Jesus).

Many people who believe in and follow the teachings of Jesus tend to call themselves Christians.

Not all followers or believers of Jesus, however, consider themselves as offcially Christians. Some Baptists, for example, consider themselves Bapitsts. A religion that existed BEFORE Jesus and one that accepted Jesus and he accepted it, being Baptized by John the Baptist.

There are some Jews who believe in and follow the word of Jesus and they consider themselves Jewish.

A Christian is, therefore, one who subscribes to or was influenced by the the Church of Constantine that evolved into all the modern Christian Churches as a result of the Reformation.

Prior to this, these people were generally called or referred to as Gentiles (and are still considered this by some people).

One of the reasons that a few people who believe in and are followers of Jesus don't refer to themselves as Christians is because of the stigma attached to the concept by radical organized religions. Let us not forget the Branch Dividan Church, the PTL organizatoin of Jim Bakker and Jonestown considered themselves Christian churches or ministries.

As for why they talk bad of them, a lot of both radical and mainstream orgnaized Chritian ministries tend to take things way too far. This evangalistic approach alienates many people.

Some take it way to litterally and become the brunt of jokes.

As pointed out many times by many people we all like to get into the mud here and play!

Ultimately, however, when the wheat gets taken from the chaff sides are drawn and it comes down to merry pranksters and punkers vs. everyone else.

It's hard to ague with love, peace, good will towards mankind, have a sense of morality, respect for yourself and others.

All of the truly good religions embody those tenents and all sides that are resonable tend to agree with them.

Everyone can then see who the fools and jerks are and it isn't necessarily the Christians.

Definitely Not A Dumb Question! A Christian is someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. People have been given free will to either choose to accept him or reject him. Some people also enjoy talking bad about them or whatever, and that is also part of their free will.

Christians are all kinds of people from all walks of life and types of health. They very as much as the other 4.5 billion people on the planet in their tolerance of others and in how long they have been believers.

They will have problems and make mistakes. Just like everybody else. They just have a greater hope and a desire to be like Christ.

A Christian is a child of God. Someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior and believes that God sent Jesus (his only son) to die on the cross at Calvary as payment for the sins of the world. We can be saved from damnation and given eternal life with God in Heaven if we just believe and ask Him to save our souls. We can then turn away from our old sinful selves and begin our new lives (a fresh start - a clean slate) living in God's perfect Will. It really is a beautiful thing. And, I'm not a preacher. Just one who has believed and seen how it can change your life.

thomas jefferson once wrote to his friend benjamin rush, "i am a christian in the only way He intended, that I love my neighbor as myself." Jefferson thought the supernatural stuff was hooey and interfered with understanding christ's message, which jefferson felt was about ethical teaching.

if there was a christian alive today who spent their lives working to make things better for poor, sick, reviled people, a christian who worked for peace, not war, a christian who turned the other cheek an dmet every mean comment with love (and i think there are some who strive for this), such a christian would be honored by viritually everyone.

What you notice about people putting down christians and pointing out that SOME christians believe ancient myths are literally true is that people are starting to recognize that the right wing christian fundamentalists are as serious and dangerous as the fundamentalist islamists - and both are used by evil men trying to gain or consolidate power.

we don't want to be forced to pay taxes to support other people's religions, we don't want our children indoctrinated in schools, at our tax expense, in other people's religions. since appealing to the constitution and american legacy no longer makes a dent in the minds of the zealous followers of fundamentalism, everyone is having to learn this bible inside and out to demonstrate that it is not , in fact, handed down from God on high to rule all of us.

the stakes are high, and therefore, so are passions. since jesus said anyone who prays in public is a hypocrite, one doesn't have to talk to a fundie who wants a state church for too many seconds before one is utterly exasperated at the lack of understanding fundies have for what is allegedly their faith.

I guess a CHRISTian is a person who accepts Christ as being the son of God. I consider myself a Christian, but I do not go to church. I don't think we have to go to a fancy old building to be Christian.

I think that people have a hard time with Christians who force their views on other people and tell them that they are going to hell. Christianity is supposed to be all about acceptance, not judgement.

Some how it became very fashionable to attack Christians, just like people use Muslims as an out for terrorist rants.
Sad. People can't accept responsibility for their own shortcomings, problems and bad actions. They always look to blame someone else.

And don't think I mean just non-believers. Those with faith do it too.
