Most cats have a natural craving for grass, even though they're carnivores. The grass helps regulate their digestive tract, in the same way that fiber regulates humans' digestive tracts. If you're concerned about your cat going outside to eat grass, you can grow some "cat grass" indoors--there are many websites and pet stores where you can buy grass just for cats.

EDIT: Eating grass doesn't mean that your cat has an upset stomach. It's just something that cats like to eat, it keeps them regular. It may change the consistency of their stools, but won't make them vomit. It's perfectly natural for cats to eat grass.

Cats eat grass because they are sick or because they have an upset stomach. There are plants you can get now for indoor cats, Its indoor grass so they can eat without the danger of the great outdoors.

That is the fiber their diets are lacking.

We plant oats inside in planters at different times, the cats eat on it for a week or so when it gets about 8" tall, but year round they get indoor formula cat food, that adds the fiber and minerals they need, the actual real grass is to satisfy their natural urge.
Also we grow them fresh catnip and order hydro catnip to eat.

Cats eat grass because they will graze for greens when they have the opportunity. They like it. PetSmarts and such stores carry "Cat grass' that you can grow at home. You may try that. Also many cat foods are made with "Greens' for that reason. (Purina Cat Chow Indoor formula is one) Dogs eat it too. It isnt always because thier stomach is upset, thier stomach can get upset because they eat it. My dog snarfs down grass sometimes and sometimes doesnt touch it at all. My cat will eat any plant she can get into. They just like it. As long as it isnt making her vomit I wouldnt worry to much about it. :)

Eating grass helps keep a cat (or a dog) regular (that's why they also like chewing on house plants) Just make sure it doesn't have any chemical fertilizer or weed killer on it, or she'll be sick as a cat! (re-phrasing the old cliche...) For this reason, it's best to grow some inside.

Grass is good for cats. Apparently your cat somehow knew this. It is good to include grass in their diet, even if just a little. Don't worry about your cat. There is no reason.

my cat eats my houseplants. Its annoying, but they do it when they are not feeling good (tummy ache). since she is an indoor cat, you could always buy her cat grass (not sure if that the name) which you can grow in a potted planter. That way she can eat grass when she is inside. go to a pet store to buy it.

well in the beginning, cats were wild animals, so it's instinct to hunt and sniff the outdoor smells that attract them. when kittens play together, they are building hunting skills. so she is only going out there to get her favorite things, grass and birds. plus her being an indoor cat doesn't matter, if she had the choice of indoor or outdoor, she'd choose outdoor, instinct and nature of the kitty.
