Dear friend, there is two different ways to stop any program to load automatically. The first one is, every program has option to select the auto start with windows, like msn messager, you can uncheck this option by going the generel/preferences, and uncheck auto start and in yahoo messanger, sign in first with any yahoo id and go to preferences- -> general and uncheck the auto start with windows. And the other way is to remove the items from windows startup folders. For that you can go to start menu--> programs--> start up--> and delete all the files or select start menu--> run and type msconfig and press ok. go to the last tab and uncheck all the commands you don't want to start automatiacally. after pressing ok, you will be prompted to reboot the system, close all the runnig programs, save all the documents and press ok when you are ready to reboot. after rebooting you will get a warning message that you have customised the configuration utility, just check the box of din't show this message again and restart your system normally from start menu. after again rebooting you will not receive this message and no any program will start auomatically. Hope this will resolve your query. Send your comments to : karanjay@takemail.com

Absolutely! Click Start, choose Run. In the text box, type msconfig and hit Enter. Click the Startup tab and uncheck which programs/applications you don't want to start automatically. You can also find various third-party utilities out there that will do this for you, but msconfig is the built-in Windows utility.

Right click 'My Computer' and then select the following
Manage/services and applications/services then select what you don't want to start and double click it. This opens a dialogue box where you can specify Automatic/Manual or Disable. You can do that for every service running on your PC, but be careful not to stop anything that windows relies on to operate. The dialogue box will also give you dependancy information and what will be affected if you disable something.
Good Luck

Don't rely on XP! Use a free utility like Autoruns or Starter to get control over all programmes that start when Windows boots, including registry entries.

The antispyware programme Winpatrol also has a good start up manager

MS Windows autorun is activated in either the Startup program group or via an entry in the Registry.
Start..Run..regedit will start the registry editor.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE..SOFTWARE..
Microsoft..Windows..Run
the values in the right hand pane show programs that will run when windows starts. You can delete the registry entries you don't want to start. Do NOT delete anything else or you may adversly impact your Windows installation.
The msconfig utility is a slightly safer method. ;-)
