Depends on your religious beliefs. Mostly meditation allows you to be more conscious about your mental and physical states. It makes you more aware and allows you to experience peace from within.

I'm a Hindu so meditation is part of the process that helps me towards moksha. Buddhists say it is part of the process towards nirvana. Jains say that it helps lead towards moksha (not quite the same as Hindu moksha, more like Buddhist nirvana). Taoists say that meditation helps you be more aware of your disharmony with Tao and to then realign yourself with Tao. Christians that meditate do so to quiet the mind and to hear God, the same with Jews (although Christians and Jews don't always call it meditation...depends on the denomination/sect).

Sometimes when I'm confused I meditate. I ask a question and then try to clear my head and receive the answer from my spirit guide, so it takes me closer to an ultimate truth and to god.

I suppose it's taking me toward self-actualization and enlightenment. But I'm really enjoying the path on the way there. :)

For me, meditation is a way for me to focus my energies and ground myself. It makes me more effective if I chose to do any magical workings.

It takes you within yourself, where you can then remember, or discover, who you really are.

is taking me
to the somewhere
that is nowhere
and that really mean:
OUT
OF
MYSELF
and

OF
HERE.
