A good dog is one that has a good owner who researches what is involved in caring for a pet and the needs of that particular breed and if it suits their lifestyle, if you have 6 children, you'd hardly want a malamute if you can't spend time exercising it as they are bred to work non stop all day. Some terriers are also high energy. (if it's a cross breed, you will need to research all the breeds involved). You should research just how much that breed will cost to feed and care for, generally the larger the dog, the more they cost. A good dog is owned by someone who provides, good training, quality food, water, appropriate veterinary care including but not limited to, vaccinations, flea worm and tick control, exercise and stimulation for their pet. A dog from parents with a long line of good temperament without genetic defects is a good start.

If you want a big dog, Golden Retreivers make outstanding pets, loyal, intelligent and good with kids. As for a small dog, I recommend something like a schnauzer or possibly a little mixed breed. Mutts "generally" have the best characteristics of all their breeds. Schnauzers are very intelligent and don't shed. Good luck in choosing~

A good dog is when you train your dog to mind and be a good dog all the time...Specially around people...A good dog is one who will greet you without jumping on you...a good dog is a friend who will get the morning paper for you...A good dog is a good companion who will love you know matter what...And a good dog will never leave you...

Ok the most playful dog (including mutts) is a cockapoo lab and golden. The best guard dog is german shepherd belgian malinois or dobermans.

pekingese are excellent family dogs. they are very loving and loyal. we had 2 of them when I gave birth to twins. Neither dog ever tried to bite the babies even when they were slightly mistreated by little hands being too rough. we have had a total of 6 in our family over the years and can't recommend them enough.

I would go with a Malamute or a Husky, They are loving, good with kids, trained fast and they are protective, they won't harm at random, they are the smartest big dog I know of.

it all depends on the circumstances if you live a small area or big , clod climate or warm I mean there is no one dog that fits all circumstances, but if you want one dog it will be a mutt, free of genetic diseases your one and only buddy that is diffrent to the world.
