I've read that you should think about a situation similar to what you've been thourgh in relation to the song. Any more suggestions?

Well the first step to putting emotion behind the song is actually believing in what you're singing. You can use your method acting techniques "thinking about a situation similar to what you've been thourgh in relation to the song".

Sometimes that doesn't always work. You can also start by analyzing the song. What is tyring to be said? What message do you want your listeners to get from the song?

Little background preparations like that will help you emotionalize your voice.

A WHOLE lot of emotion is conveyed in your eyes and the lift of your face when you're singing. Think about it, you obviously can't smile or frown a lot when singing, so your eyes are extremely important. USE YOUR EYES! Also, put yourself into a character when singing a song. Think about this character you've created, and why this person is at this point and singing this song, what circumstances shaped the present conditions, and also think about the character's past. All these things come into play when conveying emotion in a song. Good luck :)

when i sing, say I'm singing a sad song about a break up with a boyfriend. well i think about a break up experience I've had. or if I'm singing about something good that happened, i think about like me being with my friends or something good that happened like winning a contest, etc. but if your the one that wrote the song then you shouldn't have a problem in putting emotion in because you would have written your feelings into a song so you would already know the emotion your singing.

Emotion or passion isn't something you can pour out of a bottle - either you already have it or you haven't lived life without reservation in order to obtain it. You have to give up your security blanket in order to feel it. And only then can you sing it.

Emotion comes from within and so does the passion. Sorry, but if you have to ask how to do this then I would take up anothe rline. You either got it or you don't and it sounds like you don't in spades! No one can TELL you how to emote. You can or you can't. That simple!

If you can't seem to force it into your songs, sing songs that you can relate to, but that limits what you can sing so I'd just fake it.

Feel the feeling you are singing about.
