There is a type of sausage made out of grounded (peppers, onions, pig liver, and pork) all wrapped up with pig intestines.

Sausage has been made for years and has all the leftover small pieces of meat. hotdogs are mostly fat, there are some at te market that say there is 190 calories and 170 of it from fat. They can have various spices. The paprika is what gives the red color in some.
Hotdogs can be made from soy, with no meat in them. The ones I saw recently were called soy pups.
There are chicken and turkey dogs as well as beef and pork.We just got fatless ones made from turkey whitemeat. They do not grill as well but are better for you.

Every thing that is bad for you. If you eat a hot dog a day you have a high risk for cancer.

I worked in a meat factory in a town near my hometown in N.C. once and you dont want to know,but since you asked it is the leftover body parts and organs of pig,chicken and cow.If it is all beef it is just leftover parts of a cow.This is really gonna gross u out,a slim jim does not fall apart because the meat is held together by the liquid in the mammals eyeballs.

it also depends on the kind of hot dog you are buying--parts is parts--but be careful of all the chemicals that some brands have in them
