Try an experiment:
Take the 100 tons of feathers to the top of a tall building. Have the other person stand at the base of the building, directly under the feathers. Throw the feathers off.
Repeat the experiment with the bowling balls.
Now ask the other person which one they think weighs more.

A ton of anything weighs a ton. There will be more feathers in a ton of feathers because they weigh so little while a ton of bowling balls will have less in them due to their great weight. A ton is 200 pounds no matter what ypu are weighing.

They weigh the same. 100 tons is 100 tons whether it is lead or paper clips or feathers or bowling balls.

It would depend where each of the 'tons' were. A ton of feathers in the UK weighs more than a ton of bowling balls in the US. UK uses 'gross' tons = 2240lbs. USA uses 'net' ton which is 2000lbs.
A metric ton 1000kg (which is the only legal ton used for trade) is 2200lbs

DUH!!!! 100 tons is 100 tons. Whether it's in bowling balls or feathers. But believe me you'd need a whole lot more feathers than bowling balls to make 100 tons.
