I like using disposable microwaveable containers, they're easy to store, stacks up and is rather cheap.Nowadays they're even durable in and out of freezers.

However when i get lazy, I'll just use a cling film over the plate of leftovers and store them right in the fridge/freezer.
Also that way I can just shove it right into the microwave and heat it up for the next meal.
Just make sure your container or plate can withstand the temperature changes within a certain range: a resonable range in cheap plastic containers -18*C to 100*C or so

Here at home we use leftover butter, cool whip and just about anything that comes in a bowl. Make sure you label it though so you don't have to ask which butter container contains butter.

I like to use freezer bags. They zip up tight and don't take up as much room--plus there's a space to write what's in the bag and the date. If it is just one serving left I will put in those disposable Ziploc containers so someone can grab and take for lunch.
