If fat people can overeat, then they are hurting themselves just as much as smokers and drinkers, so why is everyone leaving them alone? Obesity kills more people then drinking and smoking!

Smoking and drinking are not essential to life. Eating is. I worked for a long time with an addiction therapist and she said eating, shopping and sex addictions are the hardest to overcome because you need all those things. Smoking, drinking, drugs--those aren't necessary and you don't have to confront them every day.
Obesity is extremely complex. I'd guess that you are so fat-phobic that you have no overweight friends and have never been overweight yourself so you can't conceive of life in a fat prison. It's not just about eating (with some people, yes, but not everyone)--it's also about lack of exercise, the way our society is structured, and the downward spiral of ruined metabolisms from over-dieting which leads to higher and more stubborn weight gain.

I have often thought this, perhaps its because most of the politicians or human rights activists are overweight. Shouldn't obesity be seen as a mental health issue and someone be committed for being fat, just as they are for being crazy? Perhaps cost is also an issue. Some people say they like being fat, this is just denial for someone that has given up and wants to feel good about themselves by pretending they are happy when they are not. Its easier to lie to yourself than it is to admit defeat.
Fat people also cost a lot of money through health issues and loss of productivety, as well as being responsible for many deaths, as they waste food that could be used for others.

when u overeat and drive a car u cant cause a car accident like a drinker would. u cant get any children or anyone else killed by second hand smoking by second hand eating can u. by the way i eat like i horse and i am proud to say i am 135 lbs slim and slender with a beautiull body not all people are fat because they eat many people are prescribed medication that cause you to get fat such as asthma medicine and for people that have cancer they have to take a certain medicine that cause u to get fat so dont blame fatness on food. So if u have kids i know u would rather give them food than liqour or beer or a cigareete.

Coz eating ALONE does not cause obesity....And nobody laughs at a smoker or a drinker(under normal cicumstances) like they do at a obese person. So,they are not "left alone".

You had better hope to God that nothing ever happens to you that makes you a part of the visible minority. You obviously have no tolerance in your soul for people's differences. Every one of these conditions is a disease that needs to be treated. Being addicted to food is just as harmful as being addicted to nicotine or alcohol.

I wish I knew; I'm tired of hearing fat people slam people who smoke, drink, gamble etc as they sit there with their 3 chins. Give me a break.

check your stats again checkie poo, chronic drinkers are most likely to get behind a wheel and kill, smokers cause cancer and it is gross, the fat people make the economy stronger and they are only hurting themselves

HERE HERE! But don't let them fool you. They only APPEAR to control those things. They sued big tobacco because the money goes right back into their pockets. But they still sell cigarettes, don't they? They still sell alcohol, don't they?
But I love your point!

Who said we are "leaving them alone."
We talk to them every time about eating healthy and exercising.
We ask about cholesterol and diabetes.
They are not left alone....
