I'm thinking maybe the moonies? The followers of David Moon? I think they all comiited suicide.

I think it was called "High". As in. "Hey man, this doobie has me HIGH as a kite."

It was a pretty popular religion then, and it still has a strong following to this day. Cheech and Chong were like the Popes of that religion.
