Nothing matters....speaking the language, pay the taxes
or know the American culture.....if the person is not LEGAL.....obviously is ILLEGAL ! When I came in this blessed Country I did not know the language, I worked,
I paid taxes, I respected the law from day one, I took care of my family, I studied every night to learn the language and the History of the USA and earned the American Citizenship....which I obtained after 5 long years.....and I never was on Welfare, never demanded
help from the Government...never had special privileges
like Hospitalization, free school lunch for my son, food stamps, low income rent and all the other benefits so.....
familiar to Mexican ILLEGALS...and I don' t go around
with an Italian flag....At my door i have an American flag
and I look at it with pride ! 50 years in this Country
and I love it with all my heart. Mexican ILLEGAL are demanding and ungrateful !I hope we can get rid of them
very soon.

You just answered your own question, not legal means illegal. No matter how much taxes you pay, even if you speak great english or be an American culture expert. If you come here illegally that means you are an illegal immigrant.

If they are not "legal" in this country then they do not pay taxes! Knowing the American Culture does not make you legal nor does speaking English! You must become an American Citizen to become "legal" in the United States.

Well, yeah. You consider yourself one too, don't you?

If you aren't legally here, you are.

Which isn't to say that if more were like you there wouldn't be so much opposition to amnesty.

I think in the long run the good sort will stay. However, we really need to fix the problem going forward. The number of people coming and staying illegally is really driving down education and bankrupting services in our country. There are just too many.

Yes. The term "illegal immigrant" is not pejorative - it simply identifies someone who has entered or is in a country illegally, as opposed to an immigrant who entered or is in a country legally. Illegal vs legal immigration is an emotionally charged issue, but it is not rocket science - either you are or you are not.

No.

there are plenty of people in america that pay US taxes, speak english and know about american culture, but they're in the country legally. in fact, they only come here a couple of months in the year and then go back to wherever they originated.

Even if he is not legal in the country?? Well, yes, you answered your own question. If you are not in the country legally, you are illegal. Thats pretty cut and dry if you ask me. If you pay your taxes, you might as well go ahead and finish the job and become legal, i mean it seems like the next logical step.

Considering we had to pay almost 4 thousand dollars just to get a green-card in New Zealand.. I'd say YES

1. We paid taxes the moment we got here, in fact most of the paper work filing we had to do with partial with taxes..

2. New Zealanders speak English.

3. American culture isn't to hard to figure out.

If you want to be a citizen or resident you need to do it fair and square. It's not fair to the rest of us who did it the long and hard way.

Yep. 1, 2, and 3 are immaterial as to whether one is an illegal immigrant or not.

Personally, my belief is that him or her being legal, has nothign to do with what he or she knows. Did he or she enter the country illegally? Yes? Then they are an illegal immigrant. If they know as much as you say then they can apply for citizenship.

Legality has nothign to do with knowledge. Even the smartest people do bad things.
