What about tarantulas? What is the purpose for having those as a pet? Except maybe to make arachnophobic people wet themselves - I never did get having those as a pet.

Silkworms aren't very exciting unless you're age consists of only 1 digit!
Any of those electronic pets or a pet rock would have to be way up there though.
