I know what I am supposed to do. My Momma raised me proper! I'm asking what YOU DO.

I strip the bed and grab all of the towels and put them in a pile by the door. I bag up all the trash and put it by the door. I leave a generous tip and chocolates!

BTW, never make your bed! The maids will think you did not sleep in it and may not change the sheets! NOT good.

I've been a hotel personel before and its really the job of the maid to clean the rooms and they are paid for doing that. It's up to you if you want to keep your room clean but the payment for the use of the room is still the same. Your just making the maid's work easy.

Lets just say that i tend to get lazy in a hotel room and dont do as much cleaning and tidying as i normally do at home. Like i dont make the bed, wash the bath and wash dishes. Those three things i leave for the maids to do otherwise i put my dirty washing away, dishes are kept in a nice clean pile ready and waiting for the maid to clean.

I have a hard time remembering that it is unnecessary to make the bed when I leave, because they are just going to strip all the sheets for laundry anyway. I'm probably too good for my own good... what's wrong with relaxing a little now and then? But it doesn't feel right.

I certainly don't trash the place... I hear stories about people breaking stuff, flushing pizza down the toilets, setting the carpet on fire.... Stuff like that. Maybe it makes them feel like rockstars, but I think they're stupid.

You should pick up and organize personal items. However, beds, table settings brought to the room by room service and towels are recovered and replaced. The housekeeper is not your personal maid and should not have to clean up unnecessarily. I leave a tip for the houskeeper.

Keep your belongings in drawers or suitcase so its easier for them the vacuum, don't make the bed, but at the end of your stay, leave a nice tip with a note thanking the maid service for their good work.

I leave it ALL for the maid. That's a big part of what I am paying for.

If they sell me the room with a no maid discount, I'll do that -- but if maidservice is provided -- it is because I (and you) paid for it.

Do you prepare for a meal at a restaurant? No -- because meal preparation is part of what you are paying for.

It's the same way with my hotel room -- room preparation is something I am paying for. So I'm not going to do any substantial part of it for them.

I try to keep my room the best I can. Granted if I have an all out banger of a party I tidy up a little bit.

I went away with my family this weekend and was mad at them for throwing their towels everywhere. It just seemed messy.

I generally keep it tidy and have my things in either the drawers or left in the suitcase. I leave the bed unmade, but neat because I want my sheets changed. I put my used towels in the bathtub, so that will be cleaned as well.

I throw things in the garbage but sometimes have things laying on the chairs instead of put away. If I leave a big mess I also leave a big tip.
