I have recently bought 50" Samsung DLP 1080p, with Sony 5 disc HDMI DVD player, Infinity 5 speaker system. I am not sure which a/v receiver would give me optimal sound qualify?

Thank you in advance.

Buying an A/V receiver isnt so cut and dry. It depends on your listening style and size of your room, also if you want to use multiple zones with different sources from the same receiver. In addition to that what is your HD source? For example if you're running DirecTV and can use HDMI you should use a different receiver then if you're on digital cable that allows for Component only. If you like to listen to your music loud and really want that movie theater experience I recommend using a Denon...AVR-2807 is a good option if you're going to do HDMI switching but if you're going to need to use HDMI upconversion id go with the AVR-4306. One nice thing about Denon is that they are medium-high current receivers meaning that you'll be able to drive your speakers more effiecently, in a certain respect. Avoid Sony receivers...if I recall correctly they're one of the few companies that still rate their power output at Peak, as far as I'm concerned thats a big of a suspect practice.

You didn't mention which infinity 5 speaker system.

Coming from an audiophile perspective I have 1 rule (besides not buying receivers but it doesn't count for others). Spend half on Speakers and half on every thing else(not including the TV). So if you spent $1000 on speakers and $300 on the DVD then $700 would be a good receiver price range. However if you want to switch HDMI inputs with the receiver then i think you are in the $1000 and over market (all will have more than enough power at this price range).

The following have at least 2 in 1 out HDMI switching

-Denon AVR-3806 (+analog to HDMI conversion) ~$1300

-Yamaha RXV1600 ~$1000

-Yamaha RXV2600 (+analog to HDMI conversion +up conversion) ~$1300

-Onkyo TX-SR803 ~$1000

-Sony STR-DA7100ES ~$2000

So at $1300 the Denon 3806 is nice but the Yamaha RXV 2600 at the same price with the up conversion is a bonus. Besides Yamaha makes really nice stuff. That's now 2 votes for a Yamaha.

With your setup I would consider either an upper level Onkyo or a Sony ES model.

Happy home theatering!

Depends on what you would like in sound and features. I like Yamaha receivers, but sound is a personal choice.
