My little brother is 3 years old. Since he was about a year, the doctors diagnosed him with an unknown muscle disorder. He hard has any muscle definition all through out his body. We were told that he might never walk but he did, very unsteadly but he's walking.
I just got a call from my sister that my brother was in the emergency room because he suddenly started having trouble with his leg. She said that it just went completely limp. He started dragging it behind him and was unable to put any weight on it. Her exact words was, he was acting like it wasn't his leg at all and that it wasn't there.
Right now, I'm sitting waiting for a call to find out anything. I know nothing other than what she has told me (she doesn't know anything other than that either). I was wondering if anyone had any bit of idea what could be happening. I'm scared to death. It was such a miracle that he was walking but now that it may be taken away from him, I don't know what to do. Any ideas at all?

I'm just taking some guesses here, based on "some" stuff that I know.
Is it possible that he has Huntington's Disease? I know little about this disease, other than it effects the muslces and it is progressive. You may want to Google it and read about it.

You may want to also look into Mitochondrial disorders. Again, I know very little, if anything about them, but Mitochondrial disorders do sometimes effect a person physically.

It could be possible that your little brother had a stroke. A stroke can effect a limb on one side of the body. I'm sure that the ER will check for this.

Does your brother have any kind of seizure disorder? Has he ever had an EEG? I'm just throwing that out there in case it was never considered in his case.

I know how terribly scared you are for your brother. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will keep him and your family in my prayers. I hope that the trip to the ER reveals nothing serious.

If you (or your Mom) are in need of emotional support, please visit the following website: www.specialparent.org It's an online support group for parents of children with disabilities and special needs. You don't have to be a parent though, anyone is welcome if they need the support.

Again, your family will be in my prayers.

any muscle that he may of had may be deteriated and he can no longer make function of his leg. walking and standing requires energy and muscle. Maybe he will be able to get some braces and canes to help support his body weight.

Stay strong for your brother and parents, its in gods hands.
