Yes to keep our sanity. if we didn't believe in something greater that ourselves we would still be laying on our backs doing nothing.

for more Complete living i would say, absolutely. belief in what is mostly Unknown, whether a Creator you are seeking to know more personally, or anything of super-natural quality, is a basis for hope and wonder. it gives countless humans a desire and reason to live. it also acts as a source of release. it is calming mentally, spiritually, and physically, to be able to release something out of our control into the Unknown.
most human minds are incredibly abstract and bent towards spirituality, and many find comfort/completeness (or anguish!) in the pursuit of knowing the "other side." i believe the words, "seek and you will find," when it comes to personal belief.

No. But it makes parties and holidays more fun, and gives a lot of people something to do on Sunday mornings instead of being out walking the streets. :)

I have said this before but it should be repeated. Proof is a double negative for it deems with in itself.
What is proof to one may not be proof to you. for example. I know their is a after and ghost because I am a medium and I also do ghost hunting. what i have done and seen is my proof But would not be proof to you.
Thus proof in the way your talking isnt actually proof but personal theory

Believing in things for which there is no evidence is a description of faith.
I cannot live without faith.

If you know there is no evidence of, then it is worthless to believe. But if you know and believe, then the value of faith depends on the object. If that object is an all knowing God, it is priceless.

Well, I wouldn't want to be in your boat. Sounds kind of depressing.
Spend more time researching online or at the local library.

Not generally.
For rationalists, it's a pastime. For theists, it's their very emotional well being. For those outside these camps, it's an uninteresting diversion.
