Best thing to do is spay her. There are too many dogs that die every year for no reason. Specially pits. Plus, her puppies could be faught, or used as bait dogs... and you don't want that.
As for her heat cycle... its 3 weeks long. The first week going into heat, the second "in" heat, and the third is going out of heat. There may be an odor. Her... ugh... female part will swell and this is where the blood comes from.

They make dog diapers for this. But dogs don't like wearing them.
Good luck and try to talk the owner into spaying her.

a stud is a male pit. She can get cancer. The blood is just like a period, and there is no controlling it. Wherever she sits, there will be blood. You can get doggie diapers for when they are in heat. Best just to get her fixed. There are too many animals now in shelters because someone wanted to have puppies. FYI - a dog and her puppies can produce approx. 42000 puppies in 7 years. Good reason to get her fixed.

You want to be a responsible person, I'm sure. That is why I'm answering your question. The only way to "control" her bleeding is to have her fixed - this is the responsible thing to do. I don't know what area you live in but here we have shelters overflowing with Pits and Pit mixes who will never, ever have a home because someone thought it would be "cool" to let their dog have babies. Go to your local shelter - check out www.petfinder.com and look up Southern New Jersey to see what I'm talking about, read the ASPCA site. PLEASE have her spayed.

Please get her fixed. There is a major overpopulation of dogs in the U.S. especially pit bulls. They are being killed by the thousands every day.
If you spay her it will greatly reduce her risk of getting certain cancers.
Here is some more info from this site: http://www.petsmart.com/global/articles/article_detail.jsp?CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=10134198673267978&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=9852723696503980 :
"Physical Benefits of an Early Spay
There simply is no truth to the old belief that a female puppy should be allowed to have one heat or one litter before she's spayed. There are no benefits to be gained from waiting and many to be gained by an early spaying operation.
A pet in heat will bleed, and consequently spot the carpet and furniture. Owners who have indoor pets have to cover the furniture to avoid this spotting. Carpet also will need to be neutralized to remove the smell and the stain. Although there are little pads that can be worn with a strap, most pets find them uncomfortable and try to take them off.
A female pet that is spayed before her first heat has a greatly reduced risk of developing ovarian, uterine, or breast cancer, the second most common malignancy in pets. In addition, she will never develop pyometra (an infection of the uterus). Pyometra can become seriously life-threatening and require an emergency spay operation. These infections very commonly occur in older, unspayed females.
Of course, an early spay operation also prevents an unplanned, unwanted pregnancy. If your unspayed female puppy does become accidentally pregnant, it can be potentially damaging to her health, since she is very young. A six-month-old puppy is, in no way, suited for motherhood."
Please, for the love of the breed and the health of your dog be a responsible pit owner and have her spayed!

It will be better for her and also SOO many pitt dogs and puppies are killed in shelters every DAY! Due to their awful reputation, most shelters don't even give them a chance. Please please spay her. It'll be better for you and your dog and also you will be helping other pits that need homes! Even puppies are put to sleep!! Please do the right thing!!!!!
