The South had the right under the constitution to split from the union. The north broke the law and attacked the south. Then the north said that it was fighting the war to end slavery (it clearly was not about slavery). Now the north has used its propaganda machines to make the Stars and Bars look like a symbol of racism.

The Stars and Bars is not a symbol of racism. It was the flag of a sovereign nation that the United States attacked. The United States fears a new rebellion and is taking out its anxiety on the last internal enemy.

Unfortunately, it is perceived as a symbol of racism. Because we don't want to hurt people's feelings, we probably should only display the flag under historic settings at this point. But we should clearly understand that the flag has a history and it represented a country.

well, how to say this the right way......the confederate flag is , in most cases not used as a sign of bigotry but as a sign to show that you are from southern or at least country heritage. The simple and uncomplicated and unbeurocratic ways of life, are what most ppl nowadays are trying to pay tribute to.. just because the south flew the rebel flag during the war doesnt mean it was a banner promoting slavery, it was a flag of a soverign nation unhappy with the governing body, it at first was only circumstatial that many southern land owners kept slaves . As despicable as that was, ppl today in most cases are only tring to display a sense of laid back living that the south still represents

The confederate flag is a symbol of a time this country was so weak, it turned upon itself. This is the United States of America and Old Glory is all the flag that we need. I say this is as a proud southerner who has served under the flag of this country. Also, anyone that claims that the civil war was not about slavery is spewing a little propaganda of their own.

Any one is free to fly the Confederate Flag. Those who do should understand that a substatial number of people disapprove. A Flag is a symbol and many of the of the symbols about this flag are negative. It doesn't personally bother me, but a solution is difficult because this flag is flown to show defiance.

There is no way to come to a peaceful solution to the display of the Confederate flag.

To blacks, it's a sign of the days of slavery, and to many whites, it's a symbol of days gone by, when the white man was king.

So I guess the only way to end the argument would be to eliminate them all...then their's no problem.

The confederate flag should be a part of our history, since it WAS a part of the history of our country. But this is now, and we only have one flag. I believe flying any other flag that is not the stars and stripes is unpatriotic. This is our country, this is our flag. Period. By flying the flag that represented a secession from our country pretty much says that you do not wish to be part of this country as it is today: a union of all states as one singular country.

I believe that it can be displayed on private property, such as houses, cars, etc. but not in public places or places where any time of discrimination is against the law such as business, parks, etc. We do have freedom of speech so you can't possibly ban it, but people shouldn't feel like they are in a hostile environment.
