If a hotdog is not in a bun, is it considered a weiner, or is it still a hot dog. I am from the north and still call it a hot dog, no matter if it is in a bun or not. My wife, on the other hand, is from the south, and calls it a weiner when it is bunless. Is it a regional thing, or is she just weird?

If it's in a bun and has ketchup and/or mustard on in, it's a hot dog. If it's between two buns and in your mom, it's a weiner.

Let me get this straight. Your wife wants the weiner in the bun. What do we call it when it is in her hand?
Here in the south (Texas) we call it a hot dog.

I think in her homeland they call hotdogs weiners. When she married you, she saw you call the wieners in buns hotdogs. So when a hotdod is not in a bun ( in her eyes ) she thinks its a wiener cause thats what they call hotdogs with no buns in her homeland. you should tell her they are all the same. I think.

I"m from the South. I call it a weenie if not in the bun, a hot dog if it is... until reading your comment, I'd never thought about it. But my kids usually like 1 weenie out of hte bun, 1 in.

It's always a hotdog to me. I don't want to call your wife weird, people just say things differently up north and down south.

It's traditionally the high-quality of the weiners. And, the mac and cheese. They do not make stuff the best way they used to. And, your Aunt's used to be made with love! That continually makes matters larger.

It is most often the best of the weiners. And, the mac and cheese. They don't make stuff the way in which they used to. And, your Aunt's was made with love! That perpetually makes matters higher.

You are right, it is a regional thing. Here in Western New York, a hot dog is a hot dog is a hot dog. And that's about it.
