The problem with a standard minimum wage has been around for many years.. It's the employers who don't want to raise it ...The fat cats get fatter , corporate greed is the problem , and when you look for a job next time you will be SOL because the greedy corporations and their stock holders OUTSOURCE AMERICAN JOBS TO THE REST OF THE WORLD CAUSE THEY CAN GET THE JOBS DONE OVERSEAS A WHOLE LOT CHEEPER THAN HERE IN THE USA ....It;s all about the BENJAMINS my friend ... The bottom line is money , and corporate greed .... Its not the undocumented workers .. We were all immigrants at one time except the NATIVE AMERICANS........I agree that the ILLEGALS are causing a problem ...
NO ONE DOES ANY THING ABOUT IT >>>> THE GOVERNMENT is putting a band-aid on an arterial wound ........ THEY DONT NECESSARAILY LOWER THE WAGE ....BUT WHEN THEY ARE GRANTED THEIR RIGHTS HERE THEY WILL ALL BE ASKING .......FOR HIGHER WAGES,
California has higher wages .. they have a higher cost of living too ..
All that glitters is not gold there ... Its not as great as you think......
Where I live now , and I did live in Cali. (northern ) I bought a home with much more square footage and in a nicer neighborhood for half the price that we paid there and in a BETTER NEIGHBORHOOD ..
All that to say ..there are people who believe in the American Dream wherever they may come from . the problem is that the dream has become a nightmare and Freddie is at the door .......

Because California is in a completly different socio-economic strata than the rest of the country. Cost of living is higher, food, fuel, basic necessities for the house, are all higher.
It was not the Republicans that defeated the minimum wage increase bill. They sponsored it. (That means they wanted it) They proposed it. It was the democrats that refused to go along with anything this administration tries to get done. What ever happens in the world, if it's bad, Bush did it.
What a political philosophy and strategy. Worse than shameful, it's despicable. But we are not supposed to see and understand what's going on. Ask your Democratic candidate which party defeated this bill.

California has the highest wages because they're minimum wage is higher and because the cost of living is higher than anywhere else in the country.
Yes, you can thank the GOP for lots of things...high unemployment rates, high gas prices, low wages, open borders, etc.

Yes, do look at California. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and the middle class is disappearing.
Is that really a good thing?
"A growing body of research shows Los Angeles to be a region of extreme polarization, where rich and poor live in separate neighborhoods, surrounded by others like themselves.
Demographers at Wayne State University in Detroit recently found Greater Los Angeles to be the most economically segregated region in the country. The study found only about 28% of its neighborhoods to be middle-class or mixedincome, compared with more than half of those in Nashville, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Portland, Ore"

A state that has the most problems with undocumented workers creating low wages would be the state that regulates against it the strongest. California explained.

because there were to many stipulations with the minimum wage bill for it to get approved, try reading the whole bill, not just the part that suits you.
cali is the highest paid state because it also has the highest cost of living. factor that in also. plus it is home to lots of millionaires.
and to the idiot who thinks undocumented workers contribute, heck, lets not any of us contribute then if you think it works out so fine.

I don't blame "undocumented workers" (illegal immigrants) for lower wages. I blame them for higher taxes! If they want to live and work here, they need to do it legally so they can pay income taxes like the rest of us. Then? I don't care where they live or how much they make. I just want them to live here legally. Follow the law - the rest of us do it or go to jail!

FYI....you might want to check your facts. California IS NOT the highest paid state if you are referring to the minimum wage. In California it is $6.75/hr. Alaska's minimum wage is $7.15/hr. And the cost of living in Alaska overall is higher than California.

Because instead of finding out why, you shifted the responsibility to us with your bad rhetoric.
Lookup minimum wage, living wage, and prevailing wage. And Davis-Beacon act.
Now you don't have to be mad at other people for your ignorance.
oh god Pancha - minimum wage has never been anything else but a shift in assets it effects nothing else.

I've been wondering that myself.California has a "higher price of living".Raising the minimum wage doesn't do anything but cause inflation.
