some jelli's and some coney island whitefish, havent heard of any sharks

There are a very small number of fresh water sharks in the lakes, but since these mostly inhabit the deeper water where the remaining fish still migrate, you won't have to worry about them. As for all the others, these are only salt water creatures. If you're going to the small part of New York that bounds the Atlantic, I would be more worried about oil sludges.

Probably the people are the most dangerous as in they pollute. We have seen barrels with the skull and crossbones floating in New York Harbor. There are jellyfish and some poisonous water snakes.

No. The water is too poisoned by all the stupid New Yorkers who live there and pour their disgusting sewage and filth into the water. As a result, all of the animals who once lived there have died.
However it's perfectly safe for swimming in, so take a dip why don't you...
