I just had a bologna sandwich with cheese, onions, hot bell peppers, and black olives on toasted double fiber whole wheat whole grain bread and the only thing left is that dumb red outer wrap.Is it really needed?

It helps to keep the shape and hold the meat together.

The numb nuts at the deli apparently forgot to cut the red part off; it's just used as a "casing" and if they leave that on when you order bologna by the pound, have them remove it before weighing! It's how some stores make an extra "buck" and is totally inappropriate unless you like to remove it yourself at home!

That is the casing the meat was probably shaped in or something, the red outer wrap should probably have been removed before the sandwich was prepared.

the red wrapper is a sleeve type container that shapethe processed meat into shape the people who prepared the sandwich forgot to take it off

I've seen it in ready to take packs with no red edge. Maybe it is the Oscar Mayer brand...
