As an ex-Navy Recruit Battalion commander in San Diego, depending on the seriousness of the sprain, will assign you to temporary duty while undergoing treatment, and when doctors determine you are well enough, they will assign you to a company to resume boot training.

I am not sure how the Navy would handle it but with the Army they would put you on something called a profile. It basically states that you have some sort of medical issue and have to have reduced training depending on the severity of the injury. I knew kids that sprained there ankle and had to be recycled back to another class becuase they couldn't do the physical requirements to move on in the weekly training. Once again not in the Navy but we all generally run off the same medical procedures. You prolly wouldn't get sent home because the military has spent money on your to get you into the training so they want to get their moneys worth. Hope I was of some help.

You get put in a special division until you recover. You get bumped back. You could potentially spend several more months in basic training because of it. When I went through Navy Boot there were people who broke an arm or who sprained an ankle where they couldn't run or march. They got put on medical hold.

The way it used to be...eons ago...was you went to sick bay and were treated. If necessary, you spent a day or two there, then back to the company to finish basic.
If its something that takes several days to heal, you might end up being assigned to a new company that is at your level of training.
You don't get out. Sorry.

Take care of it until it gets better. You would be put on medical hold and then start where you left off in another company.

They would most likely recycle you, meaning they will put you on light duty and start you where you left off or from the begging depending how far along you were.
