Cold sores CAN be transferred when the person does not have an outbreak, however it is quite rare. Herpes Simplex A is the virus that causes cold sores, however a quick wipe with something like a Lysol disinfectant wipe, or a 10 part water 1 part bleach solution will easily kill the virus, and give you peace of mind.

if the 3yo didn't hav evisible sores you're ok. ask mom when the last time her child had an outbreak was. The virus can live on hard surfaces 3-5 days after being in contact with the child. Also this seems crazy but if you can take a piece of garlic and cut it then hold it on your sons cheek when he's asleep it's possible if his little body did get some of the infected cells the virus will be killed before it ravages his body and leaves him with a lifetime of hassle. Garlic works, I use it for this. GOOD LUCK MOM

Yes, you can. However, it has to be direct contact, like saliva or blood. Just don't let the kids drink out of the same glass. Touching things that the other one touched shouldn't cause a problem. If the one kid is broken out, take care that he does not touch his sore and then touch something else. Then you will have to get out the disinfectant.

I don't think you can get cold sores when someone that usually has them does not have one at that time. I would keep your baby away from the 3 year old when she has one. Also there are ways to keep outbreaks from reacurring--try acidophillis, L-lysine, and VS-C if you or your baby gets one. They are available at most stores except VS-C. You can get VS-C from herbal stores (www.naturessunshine.com). VS-C is a blend herbal ingredients that viruses are unfavorable to. Check to see what kind of dosage would be good for your child.

Yes, unfortunately it is completely possible to transmit Herpes even though the carrier is not showing signs of sores. It's a tough situation, but the best bet is to avoid the child when they have any sores showing, and take precautions all the other times.

There is such a thing a asymptomatic transmission, but it is rare. So the answer is yes, but probably not.

Also, not everyone that gets exposed to a herpes virus will contract it.
