Poms will treat strangers the way you teach them to. Poms are very smart and a great judge of character. They are very loyal and very protective of their home and owners. They have a big dog mentality. Our first Pom tried to attack a German Sheppard that she thought was was bothering my wife. As for the barking it is true, they can and will bark very loudly at times. You have to correct them when they bark for no reason. As for feeding it depends on the Pom. My one Pom can eat like a horse my other one just picks at her food. With small dogs you will need to give them vitamins. I love the breed and would suggest that if you buy one do so from a reputable breeder who can show you the dame and the sire and their genealogy. good luck

My mom has 2 of them and the puppy is the cutest thing in the world but boy has he learned how to bark!! He loves to bark at strangers and when people walk in the door. He really doesn't like strangers and is not fond of kids. Her other one (which was kept in a cage in a dark basement for the first 3 months of her life) does have problems. Just make sure you buy from a breeder that you have researched....PLEASE!!! My mom's dog is so scared of the world all because the lady just wanted the money and did not care about the dog. She has had to take her to a Animal behavorist because of her issues and will cost he ALOT of money in the long run all because of a lazy person that would not take the time for her.....

Pomeranians (like all spitz dogs) are somewhat unpredicatably and more likely NOT to like strangers - this is why proper socialization is a MUST - this means the dog needs to attend Obedience lessons
NEVER NEVER buy from a pet store
the amount to feed will depend on the quality of food - if is one from grocery or wal mart you will feed more because these foods are low quality with lots of filler (more poop too) if you select a super premium level food from a pet supply store you will feed less (chicken meal, turkey meal or lamb meal as first ingredient - NO by-products, no corn no soy no wheat)
most foods have amounts to feed listed on the bag
NEVER NEVER buy a pup from a pet store (this cannot be said enough)

Temperment is both genetic and environmental. Buy a puppy from a breeder and make sure you see the parents. If they are stand-offish, then there is a pretty good chance the puppy will be too. If they are happy and friendly, then again, there is a very good chance that is how your puppy will be.
Its important in the early months to socialize them as well. Take it to a puppy class, lots of walks in the park where the puppy can meet new people etc etc.
If you buy a puppy from a reputable breeder, they will be able to answer all your questions in regards to what to feed, how much, how to groom, how often...

You want to know how much to feed it. Is it the strangers you are going to feed it? If so, one stranger will last a long time.
Truly, they are great dogs. Noisy, but also very loveable. I would like to suggest you look into a pom rescue before spending a ton of money to a breeder. Many pom rescues have puppies or older dogs that were turned in by owners or were taken from neglectful homes. I got my pug from one and he is a perfect dog. Check the internet for pom rescues in your state.

i think of you should do what 'katct' has mentioned in her answer and examine up on them earlier you purchase. i'd additionally propose which you circulate to a pair dogs shows and word the Poms there and talk with a pair vendors and breeders. in simple terms bear in mind that all of the Pom vendors and breeders will think of the Pomeranian is the only breed to have so use your guy or woman judgement besides. earlier you get your domestic dog verify you comprehend all approximately domestic dog rearing and homestead education. especially much the different question here looks to be approximately homestead-education which may be completely stress loose for you and the domestic dog if completed good.

Poms are so cute. Buy one from a reputable breeder and VERY IMPORTANT, ask to meet the mother and father of the puppy. See what their disposition is like. A Pom, or any small dog, can either be friendly or can be little terriers. The more people handle the puppy, the friendlier it will be. Key word.... socialize the puppy as much as you can.

One stranger a month should be plenty, unless of course you want a really fat pomeranian.

Nice to strangers while coming to your home, might be very aggressive (noisy) when the strangers or your friends return back from your home.
They are very much fond of calf muscles of your friends or strangers.

Some are really defensive and aggressive towards strangers. Like another poster suggested, be sure to meet the parents and see their behaviour. They should be friendly and allow you to pet them freely. If not, WALK AWAY! Don't assume that you can raise the pup to be friendly if it's parents are not.... it may genetics.
