Face it, if you're sending anything to Iraq, you might as well break it here.

Well, I live in California and my sister ships me homemade cookies cross country from Massachusetts and they are not usually broken.

What she does is line the sides and bottom of a cookie tin (like the ones you buy Danish butter cookies in) with a single layer of bubble wrap. Then she stacks the cookies tightly together, making the stacks as tall as the tin itself so that there is very little room at the top. She fills the space in between the stacks with balled up pieces of paper towel. She puts a piece of tinfoil over the top and then a piece of bubble wrap. Use packing tape to tape the cover of the tin on. Place the tin in a box and fill in the space with some bubble wrap. The idea is that if the cookies can't move then they won't get broken!

Good luck!

Girl Scouts from the Tri-state are sending a taste of home to U.S. troops in Iraq.

On Thursday, workers at the Avondale post office helped get several boxes of Girl Scout cookies on their way to the war-torn area.

A crew from a local radio station helped the cause by paying a portion of the postage.

This was the final cookie shipment of several from the scouts.

One time we sent a bunch of cookies over when they were still doing the Saudi rotation. We put them in the Pringles cans, stacked until they reach the top ( so there is no room for movement) and packed them in boxes with bubble wrap and popcorn). We didn't hear any complaints. I hope this helps. Good luck!

any cookie different than the relatively gentle ones like Sand truffles or Mexican wedding ceremony Cookies will p.c.. and commute nicely. Use a field sufficiently huge to have 2 inch popped popcorn layer on all 4 facets. Line the field with a bag, put in backside layer of popcorn, no butter, wrap the cookies in aluminum foil or saran wrap in case you go with, stack them in on the popcorn and refill the facets with popcorn and placed on the precise layer. seal the bag, then the field. I relatively have used this technique for some years, provided that my friends have been in Viet Nam conflict, and it nevertheless works relatively nicely. Popcorn is fit for human intake too!!

Those monkeys that the military hires to sort mail bounce boxes around just for fun. Bake tiny cookies that are almost round and make them hard as bricks then make a very hard royal icing and dip each cookie in it to make a harder shell. Then give them a name like Divine Jaw Breakers.

Having been in the military and witnessing first hand, it is near impossible to pack cookies with any real success. The amount of abuse given to packages by the military would make UPS seem like Mary Poppins.

Try undercooking them slightly- so they are moist- they will "dry out" on the way- trust me.. lol
Also, try packing them between layers of wax paper and packing them tight. I even had some that the container was then packed in bubble wrap- they made it pretty well... but soldiers over there WILL eat broken cookies! Anything from home is welcome!!!

when my fiancee was in iraq i used cookie tins....put them inside the plastic bag...put packing peanuts that you can buy @ the UPS store in the tin....then put them in the middle of your box....like put whatever else you're sending...candy..snacks..whatever...all around and under it...then fill in any empty spaces with the packing peanuts....but make sure that the cookies are airtight or else they will be stale when they get there...i used my food vaccum sealer to suck the air out of the plastic bags and seal them...good luck!!

Wrap the cookies in Bubble Wrapping. You can buy it from the Staples or Office Depot.
