Because the Bible is the word of Jehovah (God's name, Psalam 83:18) and it is there for our benefit. If we want to please Jehovah and do according to his will, we should study and read the Bible to get a better understand of it. For example, if you really liked Chemistry, you would want to read more about the subject of Chemistry in a some scientific book to further understand it, and it will surely expand your knowledge about it. Same goes for the Bible. If we want to learn more about our Creator, the Bible is there for us.

There is a book called "What Does The Bible Really Teach" that explains a lot of vital issues from the Bible. You can request your own copy for FREE! Contact a local kingdom hall. You won't regret it.

Please do not listen to anyone who talks about Jehovah's Witnesses. They will persecute them and say bad things about them (just as Jesus fortold about the people who would believe in him). Why don't you take a look on your own? Also, we do not have our own translation of the Bible, that is a false thing everyone is accusing us of. Take the New World Translation and compare it with other Bible versions and you won't notice any differences (only in the wording though, but the same meaning is applied). The only difference you will notice is that the New World Translation uses God's name Jehovah, unlike other Bibles. That is because the original manuscripts of the Bible held God's name, Jehovah, more than 7000 times. Here is the New World Translation online: http://www.watchtower.org/bible/index.htm

You would think that they would be studying the right one wouldn't you? Especially since they like to call themselves by God's name. God's name is Yahweh. In English translation, it means the one that is. Why don't they call themselves The I am witnesses or any of the other translations? And yes, the King James version did take the name of God out, and substitute it with Lord. But it did not appear 7000 times either. Why? Maybe it was because of a little thing called the 10 commandments? Number 3 in particular says not to use the name of the Lord in vain. Let's see, does using the name of the Lord as your religion, and plastering it on all of those pamphlets constitute using it in vain? The bible also says that every body calling out the Lord's name, won't make it to the kingdom of Heaven. But these are the chosen? The chosen what? Also in the 10 commandments, Moses said, Who shall I say that sent me? And the Lord, said, Tell them that "I AM" sent you.
The translation for I AM is Yahweh.
So what the witnesses did, was to add it back into their own bibles. And yes, they did change some of the words, and will have their followers believe that this is the word of God. What does it say in Revelations, about those who change any part of this book? The bible says not to eat animals blood, but they translate that to mean not to have blood transfusions? Ignorance kills in more ways than one. The bible also says to honor your father and your mother, but the witnesses tell you to shun your mother and your father if they don't believe as they do? This is in accordance with God? What did that commandment say? To shun your father and your mother? Anyway, this is how I know that it is a cult, and their children are all messed up because of it. So are they.

I have a family member who is a Jehovah's Witness and they have to go out and do something called "field service" that is when they go from door to door or call people at their homes to talk about the Bible. They have to do this on a regular basis , so therefore they have to be really educated about their religion and the how they interpret what the Bible says, so they can share those messages with other people.

The Bible is the only inspired infallible means of learning the thoughts of the Almighty. By studying the Bible, humans can better understand the personality of God and develop an increasingly close relationship with their Heavenly Father.

Bible study also helps them to remain resolved to live by bible principles and work to improve their own Christian personalities.

In the Bible it says "you should be able to defend you faith or belief"

How can one do this if they know very little about the Scriptures?

For all the negative answers, and those who really know nothing about JW's, but just like to toot their horn.

You might be able to deceive fellow humans, but you cannot fool Jehovah. (Heb. 4:13) Time and again the Scriptures exhort us to be honest with one another, for liars will have no place in an earth swept clean of unrighteousness. (Prov. 14:2; Rev. 21:8; 22:15) The reason for that should be clear. The promoter of all untruth is none other than Satan the Devil. John 8:44.

Making honesty our way of life brings numerous benefits. Among them are a clean conscience and the satisfaction of being trusted by others. But, the most important benefit, is that honesty wins us the friendship of Almighty God. Psalm 15:1,2.

No more for the desires of men, but for God’s will. For the time that has passed by is sufficient for US to have worked out the will of the nations when WE proceeded in deeds of loose conduct, lusts, excesses with wine, revelries, drinking matches, and illegal idolatries. Because WE do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of US. But these people will render an account to the one ready to judge those living and those dead

What is wrong with studying the Bible? Is it such a bad thing to do? The bible is what their religion is built on. Christians study the bible. They even have bible classes and bible study groups. Even I have studied the Bible and I am not even a Christian nor do I think the bible is totally true.

As dedicated Christians, we are determined to follow Jesus Christ’s example by giving witness to the truth. When Jesus was standing before Pontius Pilate, he said: “For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.” (John 18:37) You must know that truth before you can give witness to it.

The Bible contains God’s thoughts, and by taking in these thoughts, we draw closer to him. (James 4:8) We are commissioned to teach others to be disciples of Jesus. (Matthew 28:19, 20) Since the Bible is our chief tool in this work, we need to study it in order to use it well. (Ephesians 6:17; 2 Timothy 2:15)

Also, filling our mind with Bible-based thoughts protects us, helping us to walk in our integrity and avoid faith-weakening doubts and wrong ideas.—Proverbs 4:5, 6; 20:7; Philippians 4:8.The invaluable treasures of wisdom and knowledge in the Word of God are for those who are willing to seek them. If you make no effort to study the Scriptures, how can you expect to find these treasures? How can you honestly claim that you value the good laws, upbuilding counsel and enlightening truths that God has put in his written Word? When Jesus said what is recorded at Matthew 7:7, he was speaking to people who valued highly the Word of his Father, not to people who think so little of it that they seldom if ever read it. If we recognize its worth, we will do what Jesus said. In prayer, ask the Father, not once, but repeatedly, for instruction, knowledge and wisdom.

Studying the Bible so much and in depth is good, but I think they ought to switch to the King James Version. Then they would come up with some different conclusions.
