We have had many dogs over the years and found that Iams provides the most consistent quality. The only dogs it wasn't right for was a Saluki we got as an adult, who needed Wal-Mart dog food to keep weight on (we hated to do this, but it worked), and an Italian greyhound with skin allergies who only did well on Canine Z/D from the vet.

OMG it is unbelievable how many of you feed your dogs nothing but junk food!!!

I feed my 3 dogs the best dog foods I can find up here. I rotate between Timberwolf, Innova EVO and Solid Gold's Barking at the Moon. I switch between these 3 foods every 3 mo. I used to feed them NRG which is a dehydrated food, but they got tired of it after eating it for a year, that's when I started rotating their food every 3 mo. They LOVE all 3 of these foods and I love the fact that they don't have any grain or salt, by products or other junk added to them.

Most of you need to check out this article on how to grade your dog's food:

How to grade your dog's food:
Start with a grade of 100:

1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points

2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal or
fat) reference, subtract 10 points

3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points

4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points

5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five
ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer’s rice", "rice flour" are
all the same grain), subtract 5 points

6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats
in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points

7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points

8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3points

9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 morepoints

10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2
points

11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic
to other protein sources), subtract 2 points

12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points

13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to
wheat), subtract 2 points

14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to
beef), subtract 1 point

15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point

Extra Credit:

1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points

2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or
nutritionist, add 5 points

3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points

4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points

5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points

6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points

7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points

8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points

9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points

10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point

11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point

12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than
the first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein
source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point

13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point

14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are
pesticide-free, add 1 point

Yikes, everyone who answered should read the back of the bag and read the ingredients. You are feeding your dogs trash food. (Sorry). The first five ingredients are the most important. The rest are just vitamins. Their should be no mention of "by products" (what is a by product?), glucose (sugar), etc. Some really good foods are Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, and Wellness. Anything you can buy in a grocery store is junk.

One of the best thing on the market. Also one of the most expensive.

You don't buy crap food for yourself right? Why would your dog get anything else than the best?

Also, the better food will do wonder on him / her. More compact stools, eat less because the food is more filling.

We feed our dog Science Diet but I think its a little more expensive. He has a sensitive stomache so our vet told us to feed him that and he hasn't had a problem since and he is now 11 years old. The second best is probably Iams. We feed our other dog that. Hope that helps!

WELL CONSIDER ING IAMS, PURINA ,SCIENCE DIET,AND NUTRO ARE NOT EVEN IN THE TOP 10 OF FOODS ANY MORE BECAUSE THEY HAVE BECOME SOOOOOOOO COMMERCIAL THEY ARE FULL OF WHOLE CORN MEANING THE FOOD IS BASICALY A FILLER AND SOY AND SOY WHEAT, AND BECAUSE OF THE SOY YOUR DOG CAN ACTUALY BECOME ALLERGIC TO ANYTHING SOY..SO IN THE LONG RUN IT PAYS OFF TO PAY A BIT EXTRA FOR THEIR HEALTH AND LIFE SPAND. MY GERMAN SHEPARD EATS ROYAL KANINE FOR GERMAN SHEPARDS YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF YOUR DOG LIVING A LONG LONG HEALTHY LIFE WITH VERY FEW PROBLEMS AS THEY GET OLDER BY FEEDING THEM A FOOD MADE FOR THIER BREED. BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING ALL AND EVERYTHING THAT THEY NEED.

THE FOODS I WOULD RECOMEND ARE ROYAL KANINE, BLUE BUFFALO AND EUKANUBA

raw meat, yogurt, some veggies and supplements.

one of our dogs has severe food allergies, and we went to a homemade diet. she is doing great now, and all the other dogs are also in tip top shape. our dogs are all competition dogs and this diet is amazing. it's also really easy.

this is one of the raw food companies, you just add meat. check it out: http://www.sojos.com/
