When meningitis is caught early, the survival rate is very high. Most who get viral meningitis usually start getting better within 3 days of feeling sick and recover within 2 weeks.

If it's a viral meningitis and they caught it early, he should have a good chance. Even if it's bacterial, he would have a decent prognosis unless it is a certain type (Listeria is the worst, I think).
He may have some problems later due to brain swelling if it wasn't caught early--but it sounds like things are looking good. Wish for the best, and thank your health care team!

I actually had meningitis as an infant. They did a spinal tap and I came through with no adverse affects. I agree with ironbrew, the doctor will know best, but visit this link below and you can get answers to your questions and questions you should be sure to ask the doctor. If they caught it early, things should be okay. Best of luck to you and your family!

Meningitis is a very serious illness, but caught early, and as long as your nephew is healthy otherwise, he chances are quite good.
He is not out of the woods, but it looks like you have every reason for hope.

Do they know if it's bacterial or viral? Viral tends to be a bit less severe. However, if you catch bacterial meningitis early and treat it with antibiotics, the fatality rate is only something like less than 15%, whereas it can be extremely dangerous if not treated.

Many babies' eyes will change colors as they get older, as the pigment comes in. It's entirely possible they will turn brown. Otherwise, a recessive gene may have shown up. Simplified, since eye colors are more complicated than this: Brown is a dominant gene, so someone with a brown gene and a blue gene will have brown eyes. Two brown eyes genes will give brown eyes. Two parents with brown eyes can have a blue eyed baby as long as they each carry a blue eye gene, and both get passed to the baby.
