There are no trade barriers between California and New York but poverty exists in those cities. Nor are there barriers between Wisconsin and Texas. How will removing trade barriers between countries change that?
Poverty is a result of large sums of money migrating to companies or individuals that hoard it or use it in ways that benefit a small group of people. That is why poverty exists and I do not see how to eliminate that.
Communism looks good on paper. Everyone shares equally. But you end up with rulers living lavishly while ordinary folks wait in line to buy a beef roast because they are in short supply.
The only way to eliminate poverty would be to put something in the air and water that would force everyone to care about everyone else in the world. The billions spent on bombs and bullets could solve all the problems in the world. Governments would stop attacking others, there would be no need for refugee camps. The deserts would get irrigated to grow more food, jobs would be found for everyone. There would still be inequality in pay but no one would need to live outdoors and go hungry.
When scientists can invent something like that, we'll eliminate poverty.
GOOD LUCK

No - that's just one of many factors that would, in some instances, assist in alleviating poverty. If a country is very poor or has very little in the way of resources then no matter how freely it's allowed to trade if it can't produce the goods then it's pointless.
There are many countries, especially in Africa, where the majority of people work in subsistence agriculture and the majority of the remainder work as independent traders selling more or less anything they can get their hands on. Where you have a country in which over 95% of the population is engaged in these activities then it's irrelevant how freely they are allowed to trade. Even if there was some commodity available which could be traded they don't have the time, resources or the inclination to trade.
I've been to some of the poorest countries on the planet and know how people live and what they have to do to survive. Some of these countries do have valuable resources such a precious metals and minerals and they do have relatively few trade restrictions placed upon so on the face of it you'd think they'd be able to generate income from the extraction and sale of these resources.
But without the infrastructure, investment, technology and education such mineral wealth is of little benefit. And in a situation where there were no trade barriers then it's probable that some company from a developed nation would move in and extract the wealth for themselves.
The alleviation of poverty is something that can only be successfully tackled if all the component causes are tackled simultaneously. It's fairly pointless educating a nation, allowing them free trade, building an excellent infrastructure, establishing a stable government etc etc if they've no food to eat or safe water to drink.
There are hundreds and hundreds of factors that contribute towards poverty and some of these issues can be addressed with relative ease - the removal of certain subsidies to western farmers would do a great deal to help farmers in poorer countries and could be quickly and easily implemented by western governments. At the same time there are factors over which we have no control - the weather for instance.
Unfortunately there is no simple solution and the combined efforts of all the governments and aid agencies worldwide is a drop in the ocean compared to what's actually needed.

The elimination of trade barriers actually doesn't eliminate poverty. It just moves jobs from Country A to Country B where labor is cheaper. When Country C has cheaper labor, the jobs will move there paying even less...leaving unemployment behind in Country A and B.

unfortunately the system that breeds capitalistic wealth for an extreme minority will fight to the death to let that happen,or continue to create boogey men to send the poor and working classes to their bloodlust wars
