Superficial nerves. I know they hurt like heck.

IV's in the hand must pass through more nerve endings. Therefore, you feel it more so than in the elbow. Also has a little to do with the size of the needle and it they are installing a stint.

It depends upon the person inserting the IV... if they clean off your hand with alcohol and then don't dry it good.. it will burn when they insert the needle...

If they clean it good, dry it off with gauze, and then stretch the skin when they insert the needle you will not even feel it go in and it will not hurt...

The burning that you feel is the medicine that is being injected into your veins. You should only feel that sensation for a minute or two.

i.v. s hurt because it is injecting a needle inot your veign. it is piercing your skin and breaking a thin cord in your hand. no i no that that sounds gross but it isnt its like falling and skining your knee.

DUH!! It's a big needle being jabbed into your skin...yeah that's gonna hurt.
