I had a tooth that part of it cracked off, and he filled it in, well when he filled it in he didn't fill in the chipped part on the other side of the tooth. Well now the tooth is hurting and part of it above the filling on the side is black. What is it? Cavity, infection? Will it need pulled? Or filled back in?

go to the dentist and its not the tooth that chips thats how far the decay has eatten your tooth.. if the pain is severe it may need a root canal.. and those aren't much fun.. I had one. It might be cavity and some food got in it.. start brushing, cut back on anything that is bublly (i.e. soda) and start flossing well and using mouth wash

if it is painful and sensitive to hot, cold or something hard like if you bite on a fork you need a root canal and it could also be infected and you would need antibiotics before the root canal. if the dentist left space for food to get in behind the filling or on the other side he didn't do a good job, go to a new dentist
