I live in Maryland too and have lived in South Carolina and traveled to Georgia. I like being near water, so I'd suggest Savannah, Georgia or Charleston, South Carolina, though Charleston is pretty expensive. Both are quaint old cities with some modern life too. If you want more mountains, you could go to the Greenville/Spartanburg area of South Carolina. I like Columbia, South Carolina, but you would have to like a college town to be there. It's also the state capitol. I haven't been to Athens, Georgia, but it's probably a fun college town. And, finally, Atlanta is a big city, but it's sprawled all over the place with a lot less of a central city than older cities. There are still lots of things to do, but you can't rely on your feet or mass transit. Happy journeys!

why move out of MD? maybe try a different part of the state. MD has everything from beaches on the coast, to marshes along the bay, to mountains out west. it also gets a good taste of all 4 seasons across the year. georgia? the carolinas? maybe just not for me. good luck.

Maryland is too hot and humid in the summer and not cold enough in the winter. I moved north.

Google the main cities around there, find out about the job opportunities and the housing options for that area.
