There are two parts to this question. First sodas in general are not really good for kids because while it quenches thirst it makes it so they are not thirsty for the healthy alternatives. Milk provides calcium, most real fruit juices (with natural sugars) give kids something to grow on, and water is important for flushing chemicals out of the young (and older) persons body. Diet soda has a whole slew of chemical additives (not to mention the addictive caffeine) that have been tested on rats and adults but with little research on how they might affect growing bodies. There have been studies that show that artificial sweeteners can (take your pick) cause cancer, cause tumors, cause a decrease in calcium in bones, and/or cause a decrease in intestinal flora.
I say this while sipping on a diet soda. But I also say this while severely limiting the amount of soda I allow my kids.
I will tell you that I definitely would NOT give my kids caffeinated soda any where near nap or bed time. I NEED MY NAP! and they start buzzing with too much energy.

It is the phenylalanine (spelling?) I read it can put lesions (cuts) on your brain. Also, artificial sweeteners are not good for anyone and are linked to cancer. The phosphoric acid is very bad for bones which is more serious in kids since they are still growing. The body thinks it is calcium and inserts it into the bones since they are chemically similar. This causes the bones to become weak and break easier and can cause really serious problems eventually like osteoporosis (deterioration of bones usually in older people). Phosphoric acid is also in regular Pepsi and Coke too I think.

Well. Diet Pepsi is better than regular Pepsi in terms of sugar. Less calories, but more caffeine.

I guess the caffeine is what your older sister is talking about. But other than that, it's fine.

I think she may be referring to Aspartame poisioning. Pepsi products no longer contain aspartame last I checked.

Anytime you consume anything it has to adjust to your body temperature. Once aspartame reaches a body temp of 85dgrs it turns to formaldehyde (methanol toxicity) this causes everything from ADD ADHD to cancerous tumors, MS, Lou Gherigs disease and numerous other illnesses.

Studies were done on all grade levels for time periods of 2 or 3wks by removing all snack and beverage machines from schools including Jr High and High School.

They found that not only did students grades improve to perfect scores but everyone got along with one another and fights were down, students were cheerful all the time and eager to learn and did learn.

Once they brought the machines back and kids resumed eating foods and bev's containing aspartame, everything declined. Fights resumed, grades went down and kids were a mess.

ADHD and ADD students symptoms completely disappeared when off of aspartame but resumed when consumption began again.

This includes Diabetics as well. Diabetics think they are doing their bodies good by consuming diet soft drinks as well as athletes and our Troops at War. But these drinks sit in the hot sun for our troops and the formaldehyde is baking thus already surpassing the 85 dgr temp so by the time they drink the diet soft drink they are well over the top and already drinking formaledehyde not the soft drink.

What do you think would happen if you went into a lab and asked to drink formaledehyde? What would happen to you?

I suggest studying up on aspartame poisoning and it's not just found in soft drinks but gums, candy and snack foods.

The artificial swetener in it is supposed to be bad. There have been studies that show a higher incidence of brain tumors in children who ingest artificial sweteners. Best to stick with unsweetened juice (which is still filled with sugars), milk, or water. I don't give my kids soda at all because it's not good for them in either the diet or non-diet form.

sure...it may not have sugar...it may not have carbs...and yes...there probably is less a chance of you gaining weight...but you should also know...they put ALOT of chemicals in soda...and CO2...which is not required by the body...so u make not get fat by drinking this...but you do have a chance of getting many other diseases caused by consumption of aspartame (which is found in diet pepsi)...so..in a nutshell...yes..it is bad for you...o..and tell your sister to stop drinking it too!
