If so, what kind of tip would you give him. My husband tried to tip the septic tank dude for cleaning out the tank. I thought that was crazy, he gets paid well for what he does, in the short time it takes him to do it in. Or is my thinking wrong?

What??? He gets to take all that great stuff, also gets paid for doing it, then you gotta' tip him, too? Weird! :)

Seriously, part of it would depend on whether the guy runs his own business, in which case he is making a lot of money. Or, if he is an employee, in which case he has this horrid job, and gets paid diddly squat, in which case a tip could mean a lot to him.

I NEVER THOUGHT OF TIPPING THE SEPTIC TANK MAN, BUT IF YOU THINK OF IT THEY DO PERFORM A PUBLIC SERVICE BUT SO DOES THE TRASH MAN ETC. I THINK IT OUGHT TO DEPEND ON THE INDIVIDUAL. THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, ITS A KIND THING TO DO AND LORD KNOWS WE NEED MORE KINDESS IN OUR WORLD!!! AND HE DOES HAVE A NASTY JOB!!! I ALSO DONT THINK THEY GET PAID A HIGH WAGE, ITS PROBABLY ABOUT RIGHT, BESIDES WHATS TO MUCH MONEY TO CLEAN OUT THE DISGUSTING SEWAGE OF TOTAL STRANGERS???

I wouldn't. I'd rather save my tip money for someone that doesn't get a good hourly rate like a bartender, a waiter or a delivery boy. Those guys have union jobs and benefits and all that.

He's cleaning out your ****. Does it really matter what he gets paid? That is a disgusting job, and I would give him a tip just for doing it.

I wouldn't want to get close enough to him to give him money (Kidding! I am sure he smells fine). I agree with you. I wouldn't tip the exterminator or the carpet cleaner. I just never considered it a service you are supposed to tip.

No, you don't need to tip him but it's a very nice gesture. It's a pretty filthy job at times and I am sure the guy appreciated it.
