Hopefully this is transient.
Brings to mind, GSDs can be prone to life long acute pancreatitis. Enzyme therapy (vet prescribed) is one way of working with it. A friend's pup started to get this at 7 months - now 8 years. Requires enzymes for life.
Alternately, new carpet may have stuff in the fibers to which pup is having a reaction.
Wish you and pup the best. Hope it doesn't happen again.

YES because I have been there. Our lab had pancreatitis, deadly to animals and humans, and more than once she covered several rooms with poop trying to get outside.
And most of our experienced happened about 3 in the morning.
