The question asked about ignorance, not about education. To the guy below who mentioned about scientific breakthroughs: Yes that's very true, but this question is about ignorance. The simple fact is that your average American knows far less about the rest of the world than your average person from anywhere else in the developed world. This is due to the USA being a very insular society which feels (possibly correctly) that it doesn't need the rest of the world, so it doesn't need to know about it.

And you're damn right Americans have opinions and think they're right, what kind of flippin' moron would have an opinion they think is wrong. And we voice our opinions because we have that right.

We don't all support some of the decisions our government makes, but what person in a free country does?

What is ignorant is to base your opinion of MILLIONS of people based on the political decisions made by that countries government. Should we base our opinions of you based on Tony Blair? Or the people of Iraq based on Saddam Hussein? Or why don't we judge Islam based on Bin Ladin, or Christianity based on Pat Roberts?

Here's a thought, it is ignorant to judge an entire country, race or religion based on the actions of a few. Stop looking for reasons to hate and try and find reasons to, if not love, then at least appreciate, people that are different from you. That would make the world a better place.

It seems that most Americans are completely blind to the rest of the world and I especially get annoyed when they have trouble understanding someone speaking English just because they don't have an American accent. They have subtitles on tv when someone is speaking English in anything other than an American accent!
I am deeply in love with an American man and know many wonderful Americans but in general, they are the most ignorant people on the planet and unfortunately the rest of the world thinks of them as stupid. Whenever I told another Aussie that I was going to marry an American, their usual response was 'why would you want to marry a stupid American?' Afterall, they are justified in asking.. look who they have running their country.

I just laugh at all the U.S. votes on this question. It's like you people are trying to impress someone since it's fashionable to bash the U.S. If you truely believed the stuff you were saying, why are you still here? Go to France, or Russia, or China. I'm sure they'd be glad to have you.

I'm from the good old U.S.A. and I've got say, seems like we are so far advanced from the rest of the world INCLUDING great Britain when it comes to war tactics and weapons that the people here are simply trying to cover their own countries ineptitude. The Brits for example still don't know electricity, they have to do EVERYTHING backwards when it comes to wiring, Seems like we are pretty smart when it comes to you all needing help! The only thing that makes my fellow Americans ignorant is their insatiable appetite for helping other countries who make fun of us. Frakkin unappreciative losers.....triple digit for instance thinks gay people only live in my country.....I bet the inbreeding in his family runs rampant! The United States leads the rest of the world in technology....Japan is second and they simply copy us....I would have to say that the stone aged middle east is the stupidest of all.....killing, and maiming their own families just to prove a religious point that is so outdated it aint funny. The rest of you step in line above them in the order you feel you fit but remember this, AMERICA IS ON THE TOP OF THAT LIST!

FRANCE, for forgetting who it was that saved them, twice. NORTH KOREA, for threatening the most powerful nation the world has ever known, IRAN, for taking over a hundred citizens of that same powerful nation hostage for over a year, CUBA, for sacrificing the well-being of its own people just to prove a point (NORTH KOREA and the USSR [R.I.P.] fit in the category as well) the NETHERLANDS for legalizing almost everything, and SAUDI ARABIA and CHINA for their persecution of Jesus Christ.

The US - after all, 49 million+ people voted for Bush in the last election and that's a sure sign of ignorance. Then, add in all the illegal aliens, and the good old redneck boys who didn't vote because their sister (also their wife) never taught them how to read and you've got a lot of ignorant people
