Despite the commonality of name, bedsizes do vary somewhat, from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even from model to model within the same manufacturer.

A normal "king size" bed is about 80" long and 76-78" wide.

A California king is generally a little longer (about 84") and a little less wide (approximately 72").

Makes that sheet thing tricky, doesn't it?

Yes there is. The California King size bed is longer but the same width as a King size bed.

A california king is somewhat larger than a standard king size. I'm not sure how much larger, but it is larger.
