Has she been asking for anything? Hinting? Try asking some of her friends.

You want to find something special, something she'll like both because it's from you and for itself. If she reads, get her a signed copy of a book by her favorite author. If she's into music, try a signed poster or CD. Collectibles and one of a kind things are a good bet, as long as they relate to something she's interested in.

Also good are things that remind her of your special times together. A picture of the two of you somewhere special in a nice frame, accompanied by flowers. Did she buy some perfume or body lotion last time you went on a vacation together? If so, try to find the same thing. It will remind her of the happy vacation and show her how perceptive you are.

If you want something sexy-er (and if that's her thing), take her on a secret trip to Victoria's Secret or her favorite lingerie store and let her pick something out. (Do not buy her something yourself unless you know her exact size and style. Too big, and she'll think you think she's fat. Too small, and she'll think you think she needs to lose weight.)

If you've got plenty of money and time to burn, plan a weekend vacation at a bed and breakfast somewhere nice. Have them put flowers in the room before you arrive. Plan a trip to an art museum or a zoo, or just stock up on bedroom toys.

Plan a nice dinner for two in a fancy restaurant. Get her a professional massage or a day at the spa. Shower her with flowers.

If all else fails, ask her. But do not believe her if she says "nothing." She may think she doesn't need anything from you, but she'll feel extra special if you get her something, and dissappointed (at best) if you don't.

You can never go wrong with jewlery. But avoid watches, and cheap stones. DONT buy clothes because a girl can easily get insulted if you buy th e wrong size. Try burning her a special birthday CD with all her favorite songs and some voice recordings from you.

Well to me, the best present you can give her is you. Dont forget the things you can buy,but give her one night of relaxation, maybe make her a wonderful rose pedal-bath,a candlelight dinner, and cuddle and listen to her. She'll appreciate the effort. But yes a nice locket with your picture would make her smile.

I know how hard it is to fine the perfect gift, everyone says, find something they truly like and want. And thats basically all you can do. Give her something that would totally suprise and amaze her, as well as taking her out for dinner to her favorite place, or to a hip new joint. I think you will do fine!

jewelry for sure. Flowers are nice but you need something more for 3 years. Take her to a fine restaurant and give her jewelry.

Think jewelry....necklace, braclet, something personal that lets her know that you know her, what is her birthstone? What is her favorite gem stone? Does she like gold or silver? white gold or platinum? Gem stones are generally cheaper than diamonds and they can be more personal.
