i'm pretty new to drinking and it seems like everytime i'm drinking beer out of a bottle, it always starts foaming and overflowing out of the top...why does this happen and how do i prevent it so i don't spill on myself and look like a douchebag at a party?

Stop banging it down on the table so hard.

First, if you open it and it foams, it has been shaken up. Nothing you can do here, just let it calm down.

Second, don't suck beer out of the bottle. Sip it.

Third, don't shake the beer bottle or slam it down on a counter.

If it still foams up, it is just a haunted bottle. Put it away and get another one. If that still foams up, you are cursed and should stop drinking beer.

I think you're drinking wrong. When you go to take a drink, I think you're sucking from the beer bottle, creating pressure in the bottle and causing the carbonation to escape as the atmospheric pressure rapidly changes after you take your mouth off of the bottle.

The fix to this is to not suck from the bottle, ie., drink the beer as if you're drinking from a cup, so that there is air going in your mouth at the same time as beer.

All of these answers are good, but they leave out one possibility.

When holding a beer, you are not looking, so someone is tapping the top of your bottle with the bottom of theirs. The vibrations and the pressure cause it to foam up rapidly.

If this is happening to you then you fall into the classic case of "fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me because i am a douchebag"

To prevent this, hold your bottle with your thumb, index and middle fingers (like a pitcher holds a baseball). hold it low and loose and casual. if someone tries to tap your bottle and it falls out of your hand and breaks... then they look like the childish asshole and they owe you a fresh beer.

usually that only happens when you crack a fresh brew, when you open your beer, take a nice healthy drink, so the beer is clear of the neck. sipping is for sissy's and will result in making you look dumb in social situations.

does it happen after you take a sip?? if so then try not to put your whole mouth around the hole, let some air in as you drink from the bottle
