It just changed your name from an English pronunciation into Katakana - Japanese writing for foreign words. So it makes it easier for them to say it.

It's the same as Derrick. The japanese have three writing systems, one of which is Katakana. In Katakana, they make foreign (to them) words sound Japanese. For instance, there's Herikopota (helicopter), Miruku (milk), Remon (lemon), Roketto (rocket). And so on. So it's just the japanese way of pronouncing Derrick.

It is just a Japanese way of saying Derrick because they can't end a word comfortably with a consonant. I taught an English class there and the kids couldn't say pink, they had to turn it into "Pinku".

Most of the time if you are a westerner, your name have no meaning. However, there are instances that a westerner's name have a meaning in other languages. I am sorry I can not give you a full answer for your question, but the closest I can get with your name is a Deri, which means a little cart.

Stephanie's pretty much nailed it. In Japanese, words can't end in consonants, so they tack a vowel onto English words that do. K: ku D: do F: fu etc. Your name doesn't mean anything more in Japanese than it means in Eigo (English) but it's pronounced like this : De-li-ku, with the 'L' sounding like a cross between an 'L' and an 'R'
