drink some camomile tea
SNOOZE FOODS
These are foods high in the sleep-inducing amino acid tryptophan:
Dairy products: cottage cheese, cheese
Soy products: soy milk, tofu, soybean nuts
Seafood
Meats
Poultry
Whole grains
Beans
Rice
Hummus
Lentils
Hazelnuts, Peanuts
Eggs
Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds
BEST BEDTIME SNACKS
Foods that are high in carbohydrates and calcium, and medium-to-low in protein also make ideal sleep-inducing bedtime snacks. Some examples:
apple pie and ice cream (my favorite)
bowl of whole-grain cereal
hazelnuts and tofu
oatmeal and raisin cookies
peanut butter sandwich, ground sesame seeds (It takes around one hour for the tryptophan in the foods to reach the brain, so don't wait until right before bedtime to have your snack.)
BEST DINNERS FOR SLEEP
Meals that are high in carbohydrates and low-to-medium in protein will help you relax in the evening and set you up for a good night's sleep. Try the following "dinners for sleep":
pasta with parmesan cheese
scrambled eggs and cheese
tofu stirfry
hummus with whole wheat pita bread
seafood, pasta, and cottage cheese
meats and poultry with veggies
tuna salad sandwich
chili with beans, not spicy
sesame seeds (rich in tryptophan) sprinkled on salad with tuna chunks, and whole wheat crackers

Warm milk if you can stomach that. There are some good herbal substances that won't cause side effects, go to your local health food store and ask them about it. Try self-hypnosis, lay down and start to concentrate on one body part at a time and tell yourself it feels warm, comfortable and relaxed - I'm usually asleep before I can completely finish this and I have horrible insomnia. Good Luck!

Think about what you do before you go to bed. Somethings actually awaken our minds without us realising it.
Before I go to bed i write a list of everything I need to do the nest day, also if there's anything on my mind, I write it down.
When I'm finally in bed, I try to think & picture complete blackness. This is actually really hard & requires you to remove everything else from your mind.
Next thing you know, your'e waking up!

I wear a sleep mask. You can get them at Claire's or World Market. It helps block out any light. It gives me 2 hours extra sleep, guaranteed. But it is a little harder to wake up.

Try Tylenol PM, or melatonin tablets(you can get both over the counter.) As others have said, mention the problem to your doctor if nothing else works, and he/she could prescribe you something(e.g. Lunesta).

Try some decaf hot tea and some meditation. Reading works for me too.

Take some sleep medication. If this doesn't work, ask a doctor for some prescription ones.

Two things always work for me: a glas of red wine or a nice hot bath -- if you do both, it's going to put you to sleep for sure ;-)
