Isn't it possible to believe in God and evolution? Jesus said that he spoke in parables, like the Bible. Why don't atheists admit that the story of creation, along with much of the Bible, is a parable? It is a story with a moral.

Forgive them Father, they know not what they do.

Children! Children! I merely stated that I believe that the story of Creation, along with Job and other books of the Bible are obviously, to me, parables. Since this would allow for science AND religion, everyone began s*itting their pants. You are closed minded to religion. The moral behind the story is always more important than the story in the Bible.

It is a story with a moral.... that's our point.

And why don't you believe in Zues? It's the same question. To you it doesn't seem plausible.

"Why don't atheists admit that the story of creation, along with much of the Bible, is a parable?"...because you're still asking us to believe in a god.

"Jesus said that he spoke in parables...", yes, but he never said the rest of the bible was.

"Isn't it possible to believe in God and evolution?", yep, it certainly is. The thing is though, that when people started doing that, they changed the rules of the game halfway through. The bible was originally taken as literal, until it started being proven incorrect, at worst, and inconsistent at best. Changing the rules to make it figurative, doesn't really give it any more credibility to the logical mind.

Maybe they feel scared? Guilty? Some other feeling that believers don't have to feel? As for the creation story being a parable, I don't know..........I'm not going to say it's impossible, but since the Bible seems to be so literal in the Old Testament, I think I'd rather take that literally too.

I don't know. Allot of Atheist think that we should open our eyes and look at evidence and facts and data and on and on. Funny though when you ask them to open their eyes and think of the possibilities of the Bible they refuse to even entertain the idea. Explore every angle and think of all the possible theories that could come of science and the written word. Even if they are just stories they are stories that have stood the test of time that people have followed for thousands of years. Maybe they even stem from some root of truth that has been edited and re written so many times they seem like they could never happen. That alone is the testament of a good book. Maybe there IS more to the Bible than meets the eye.

Well I don't cry over anyone believing in God, I don't really care what they believe. I do think the bible is just a story with a moral, I don't believe there is a God. Thus the bible is a story with a moral. As for believing in both, many people do, I don't care if they do that either.

Parables are semidigested arguments for dimwits to grasp the tip of the iceberg.

And, as with semidigested things, the digested part is plain crap.

Believers cannot pair the theory of evolution because they simply CAN'T understand it. Most people see evolution as a race towards a finish line. They fail to grasp evolution as the process of causality on living things. Evolution does NOT force species to change. Species change due to external factors that range from the environmental to the molecular level.

And there is NOT a SINGLE instance of the Bible even faintly pointing to evolution in any possible way. Prove me wrong.

What might make an atheist cry is the tragic spectacle of seeing their son or daughter taught supersitition in the name of science in schools.

So let's make a deal. You go ahead and give it shot - try to convince your fellow Christians that the Bible is a parable - including creation. When they step away from the blackboard, and their other attempts at creating a theocracy, then this skeptic will gladly take a step back himself. I have no issue with religious people who understand reality. I never did.

Because athiests know that christians do not believe that creation is just a parable. That is what bothers them. Creation isn't a parable. Take care.

When The Messiah said "this is a parable" it's not he same as when he said "Let us make man in our image". You see the difference. God would have said "OK boys and girls, we're going to make a word picture now of everything that was before there was anything!" He didn't, he spoke exnihilo!

I believe in a higher power and an authoritative good, but I don't believe in going to church everyweek or talking religion all of the time. It's a pity people can't see it both ways, but I'd rather profess to being an Atheist than hang out with religious folks and give up my love of life and science.I believe the Bible could be true, but I in no way intend to give up my worldly stuff for considering it.

Three-thousand-year-old creation theory........ modern-day scientific theory.....

Three-thousand-year-old creation theory........ modern-day scientific theory.....

Three-thousand-year-old creation theory........ modern-day scientific theory.....

Gosh, I just can't decide...

Edit: So if you're only concerned about the moral BEHIND the story, and not whether or not the story actually happened, then why stop at Christianity? A lot of other religions have really meaningful stories too. Hell, a lot of ancient Greek stories are also pretty valuable. Why stop at the Bible when you can have them all?
