A lapdance. If he's never had one, he'll be glad he had one before it was too late. YOU GO GRAND-DOOD!

My 80 year young father passed away May 28th of this year and would have been 81 this past Sat. He had been healthy and farming up until Feb. when he had a heart attack and then neg. cost him his life from something totally unrelated. I wrote him a letter this past Sat. telling him how much he meant to me and all the special things he did for me. I was adopted, and the saying that anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy is oh so true. Get in touch with your local hosp. or clinic and see if they offer free or discount health screenings to be used as gifts. It might be the best gift he ever receives. Again, let him know how you feel and how special he has been in your life now. It is too late when they are gone. God bless and I hope your dad has many healthy years ahead of him.

For me, you don't need to give him something that is material...
My suggestion is take him to a special place...may be a place that you really like or your father's favorite place. Then arrange a dinner or a picnic with your whole family.
My option would be to to take him by the seashore or near a field as long as it is very scenical and picturesque. If you want to be alone with him that is fine. Then just tell him stories about you and about your relationship with him. Reminisce the things you have done for him. Tell him the things that you did and you wanna do to make him feel that you really love him indeed. Of course you can take your whole family to add more fun.
You can also just buy a card then make your whole family write on it. Or make a video and include all the pictures of your family...
You can take him also to a mall, treat him and play sports with him whatever he really likes (example make him feel young like playing in the arcades..there are virtual race cars there if he can still do that). Make sure that you feel that you are with him...
Giving material things are not usually the option... They dont need that anymore. The best gift is to make him feel loved and secure as he ages... time would be the best gift... make him enjoy it...

I think a nice gift for some one of his age would be something like a book of memories. Get everyone in the family to write a story about your dad and get some pictures of the family together and put it all together. After he passes, it will make a great thing to pass down. and then everyone can add to it over the years...... Wish him a happy birthday from me!

Whatever you decide to buy him, put a lotto ticket in the greeting card. It is always a fun thing to look forward to for a month after his birthday. Play any and all numbers beginning with 8...as in 8-18-28-etc...

Several years ago when my step-dad turned 80, I rented a LARGE cabin and invited all the family up there. We watched home movies, had great food, and played lots of silly little trivia games. It was perfect.
As far as a gift goes - he probably has everything he could want...so make it something simple like a framed photo of all his children and grandchildren.

Wow! At 80, he probably has everything he needs. Spend time with him! Does he like to do anything special? For example, my 71 year old dad likes to gamble at the casinos- for his next birthday, I'll probably take him there for the day and gamble with him, then splurge on lunch. Fun times together are priceless to our older parents.
