Private, Private second class, Private first class, Specialist, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, First Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major. These ranks compose the body of enlisted soldiers, however, the ranking system is a bit more complicated than simply using titles. They also work on pay scales which run from E-1 to E-9, and some of the titles operate at the same pay scale but with greater authority and rank. The officers operate on a similar pay scale, 0-1 to 0-9, however even an O-1 with one year in service outranks an E-9 with thirty years in service. The officers' titles are as follows: 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, captain, major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, General, and General of the Army. There is a third category of rank, warrant officers, and they are promoted because of their specialty and skill level.
